Capacity Management
« Go back
Capacity Management assures that sufficient IT resources are in place to support current and projected business needs in a cost effective manner. Capacity Management involves:
- Monitoring performance of IT services and maintaining a Capacity Management Database (most likely implemented as several databases) that records the results of activities such as monitoring system performance, analysis of resource utilization and Service Level exceptions, and system tuning.
- Tuning applications and hardware to most effectively utilize existing resources.
- Projecting future capacity requirements based on business forecasts, historical growth patterns, peak load projections, etc.
- Working with business areas to assure understanding of costs associated with IT capacity and thereby constructively influencing demand to IT resources.
- Producing a capacity plan to meet projected needs integrated with constraints imposed by Financial Management.
