Release management plans and manages the introduction of hardware or software changes into the production environment. This includes:

• Grouping set of changes to be implemented simultaneously
• Identifying all affected Configuration Items (including hardware, software, documentation,..)
• Validating build processes
• Testing the planned changes (quality assurance) including backout processes.

Master copies of all controlled software should be contained in a Definitive Software Library (including purchased software).
